A glittering career sometimes hides some of the darkest stories beneath. Lolo, who won the USA and World championships in hurdle events in 2013, achieved this feat through a great deal of effort and tremendous patience. Jones had a difficult childhood as she was raised by a single mom with a large family. She was constantly on the move and even been living in the basement of a church for a duration. Jones had to attend a new high school each year due to her nomadic background. Jones had to live away from her mother at Theodore Roosevelt School to pursue her love of track. Jones was part of different families in high school so she could be focused on her studies. Jones won her the Gatorade Iowa Track & Field Athlete of the Year Award at school and was also involved in the school orchestra, as cellist.
